At approximately 6:20pm yesterday, Hoover Police responded to two related crashes involving life threatening injuries. The first crash occurred on Valleydale Road at the I-65 overpass, involving a Ford Expedition and a Toyota Camry. Although this crash is still under investigation, it appears the Expedition was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on Valleydale Road when it struck the Camry head-on. The driver of the Expedition fled that scene on foot and ran onto I-65. He attempted to cross the Southbound travel lanes and was struck by a Mitsubishi Outlander. He was transported to UAB hospital with life threatening injuries. Both the driver and passenger of the Camry were also transported to UAB hospital. The passenger, an adult female, was pronounced deceased upon arrival to UAB. The driver is being treated for serious injuries. The driver of the Outlander remained on the scene of the second crash. Hoover Police Traffic investigators are investigating both scenes. The name of the deceased will be withheld until proper next-of-kin notifications have been made.
