Shoplifters Arrested After Stealing Over $4,000.00 Worth of Merchandise

On August 4th, Belk loss prevention officers observed two females selecting multiple purses and wallets from the accessories department. The suspects then concealed those items into larger purses and continued walking through the store. Next, they went to the fragrance counter and selected assorted perfumes, placing them in a Belk shopping bag. Each suspect also took several clothing items and concealed them in Belk shopping bags.

The females then split up, with one of them exiting the store with numerous stolen items. Loss prevention officers approached the female and she began to run toward her vehicle. A Hoover Police officer located the suspect and took her into custody.

The second female entered a fitting room with her items where she remained for approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. Upon exiting the fitting room, she took a pair of wire cutters and removed a security sensor from one of the items. The suspect then exited the store with numerous stolen items. She was apprehended by loss prevention officers without incident.

Working in concert with one another, the duo stole 82 items totaling $4,084.07. Detectives obtained warrants for the following:

Audrey Felecia Smith, 31 years old from Birmingham, Alabama
Theft of Property 1st degree $10,000.00 bond

Shelby Nicole Wallace, 29 years old from Hartselle, Alabama
Theft of Property 1st degree $5,000.00 bond

Both are currently in the Jefferson County Jail.
