scam alert!

***SCAM Alert***

An unknown male is calling people across the area saying that he is a member of Hoover Animal Control. It is believed that this person is using social media to identify potential victims that have posted about a lost pet. He explains that they can pay a “release fee” by giving him their credit card information over the telephone. He would then release the pet back to them.

Please remember that this is NOT how legitimate government business is done.

Scammers will often:

• Pose as officials from Social Security, the IRS, or other agencies.

• Threaten you with legal action or loss of benefits.

• Pressure you to pay immediately with unusual methods like gift cards or wire transfers.

Remember:

• Government agencies will never threaten you or demand payment via unusual methods.

• Verify the caller’s information by contacting the official agency directly.

• Never share personal information over the phone or through unsolicited emails.
