Neighborhood Watch Program

Neighborhoods that communicate and interact with each other are better able to identify and report suspicious activity, therefore deterring potential criminal activity. Get to know your neighbors! Interested in forming a Neighborhood Watch for your area? Click here!


Fingerprint Services

For some industries and occupations, it is required that you submit an official record of your fingerprints. The Hoover Police Department provides this service to the general public by APPOINTMENT ONLY.


Safety Presentations

If your civic group, church group, business, neighborhood, retirement community, youth group, etc. is interested in having an Officer give a safety presentation, let us know! We can also assist if you are having an event and you’d like a representative from Hoover PD to attend as a “vendor” with a display table. Email us! NOTE: please allow at least 2 weeks prior to the event.


Special Needs Notification Program

This is an information sharing program with the PD, and is intended for Hoover residents with family member(s) with special needs (for example, a child or an adult on the autism spectrum, intellectual or developmental disability, Alzheimer’s/dementia patient, etc.). You can to communicate those needs with us prior to an emergency.


Compact

COMPACT is a collaborative community initiative designed to address the full spectrum of substance misuse in Shelby County through prevention, intervention, and education. Hoover Police is proud to be involved in this multi-agency effort that crosses many different jurisdictions.


School Resource Officer Program

It is the intention of the Hoover Police Department and Hoover City Schools to maintain a collaborative relationship to provide a safe and healthy school environment for students, staff and visitors. Our SROs pride themselves on being more than just a law enforcement presence inside the school they are assigned to. They foster relationships with the students and the staff on a daily basis.


National Night Out

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and encourage participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.


Officer Visit

It is a priority for us to engage with the community we serve. If you would like an Officer to stop by at an event, Email us and let us know! Please give us at least 2 weeks’ notice prior to the event. (NOTE: we will make every effort to attend, but can’t guarantee the visit due to call volume, needs of the City, shift, etc.)


Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative

You can help the Hoover community by participating in this important subtance abuse initiative. Unused/expired medication can often end up in the wrong hands. There are several ways that you can help us dispose of potentially harmful expired medication. Here’s how!


Critical Incident Planning for Civilians

 For Hoover businesses and organizations.  Members of the Hoover Police Department will assist business owners, managers and organizational leaders to develop active threat and critical incident planning.  Email here for more information and give at least 4 weeks notice.


No Shave November

Each November, HPD will be putting down our razors for “No Shave November” in order to raise money and awareness for The Wings of Hope Pediatric Foundation. Wings of Hope is an organization that comes to the aid of families with terminally ill children. Hoover PD is proud to partner with this wonderful organization. You can help, too!


Neighborhood Safecam Program

Does your neighborhood have video cameras set up in different locations? Let us know! Neighborhood SafeCam is a great opportunity to make your neighborhood a safer place for the entire community. Registering your neighborhood cameras not only helps deter crime, but assists the Hoover Police Department in its overall crime prevention strategy. In addition to the Neighborhood SafeCam program, HPD partners with RING doorbell systems to work with individual homeowners on downloadable video footage for residences.  Email us for more information.


House Watch Program

Hoover PD’s House Watch Program is designed for Hoover residents who will NOT have anyone (such as pet sitters, someone watering plants/checking the residence, etc.) at their home while they are away for an EXTENDED period of time.


Home Security Survey Program

Connect with a Hoover PD Crime Prevention Officer to discuss physical security measures for your home. You can use this information as a guide to evaluate your home’s security based on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles.  Email us for more information.


Citizen Survey

Medic Alert System

Residents living within the City limits of Hoover are eligible to use the Medical Alert System.


Child Identification Kit Program

Enhance your family safety plan with the help of Hoover PD’s Child Identification Kit. Our mobile system can capture identifying information such as child’s photograph, fingerprints, and parent contact. All of the information is burned to a CD and given to you on the spot. When seconds count, you’ll have the ability to give responding Officers your child’s name, photograph, and digital fingerprints. NOTE: HPD does not keep any of the information, it is all given to caregiver. Email here for more information


HPD Internet Exchange Locations

Hoover Police Department is pleased to offer Internet Purchase Exchange Locations, or “Community Meetup Spots”, at several places throughout the City. These areas are for people that are buying/selling/trading items on the internet and need a place to meet with someone they might not know. It also eliminates the need for two strangers to exchange items at a home or a residence.


Coffee With A Cop

We are always looking for ways to interact with the citizens we serve each day. Community policing has long been considered a framework for establishing trust between the community and the police. Coffee with a cop is simple; no speeches, no agendas, no specific topics. Just informal conversations about what matters to community residents.


Boots vs Badges Blood Drive

The Hoover Police Department, Hoover Fire Department, and the City of Hoover have partnered with the American Red Cross for the “Boots vs Badges Blood Drive”. This is an annual friendly competition among Hoover First Responders to see who can recruit the most blood donors from the community.  Check back here for the next date.


Apartment Calls For Service

We receive many requests for apartment complex statistics and data. These are the reported incidents (calls for Police service) for multi-family properties in the City of Hoover. This database is updated monthly for your convenience.


HPD and Breast Cancer Awareness

Every year, Chief Derzis and HPD proclaim October as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” by placing highly visible decals on all of our marked Police Tahoes. Officers will also wear pink badges to emphasize the importance of breast cancer awareness, research and prevention.

The Hoover Police Explorer Program provides young men and women the opportunity to study the field of law enforcement and experience community service first-hand.
