Leadership Hoover visits Hoover PD

A few days ago, Chief Derzis and Hoover Police Department had the opportunity to host Leadership Hoover and IGNITE Hoover Youth Leadership for their Public Safety Day outing.

The class got a chance to tour our state-of-the art Police Training Center. Chief Derzis shared information about the Department and had a great Q and A with the group. They also got a behind the scenes look at the Training Center: the lifesaving HPD Bearcat rescue vehicle, the HPD Porsche, saw a demonstration from K9 Ace, got an up close and personal look at our Motor Scouts and their Harley Davidsons, and finally the gem of the facility, the VirTra interactive situation-based training simulator. The group was able to just see how critically important it is for to police officers to train on de-escalation techniques.

Later in the day, they toured the nationally renowned Hoover 911 Dispatch Communications Center, and also visited the National Computer Forensics Institute which is located right here in Hoover.

Hope you guys enjoyed it as much as we did! Anytime we can visit with our community and the people we serve, it’s a great day. #welovethisjob
