Captain Norman McDuffy

Captain Norman McDuffey began his law enforcement career with the Birmingham Police Department as a patrol officer in 1990. He served as an officer and sergeant there before joining the Hoover Police Department in 2001. He has worked in various assignments in the Hoover Police Department including as a patrol officer, canine handler and as an investigator. He has been promoted through the ranks and has served as a supervisor in the Crimes Against Persons Unit and in the Operations Bureau. He has also been a Division Commander in Patrol and in Investigations.

During his career, Captain McDuffey has held positions in several highly specialized units. He has been a canine unit supervisor, SWAT Team member and hostage negotiator, homicide investigator, narcotics investigator and a fugitive task force member.

Captain McDuffey was born in Columbus, Ohio but grew up in Birmingham. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Samford University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (session 278).
