HPD completes more autism and first responders training!
“You WILL meet people with autism during your next shift. Are you prepared?”
This was the question that was asked before each sworn officer began this course. We are happy to announce that every sworn HPD officer has completed this extremely informative training. It gives our officers tools in their toolbox to help people that might have autism, physical or invisible disabilities, as well as others with special needs, in an emergency situation.
Highlights of the training include:
- How to identify individuals on the Autism Spectrum
- Tactics to manage sensory challenges
- Strategies to overcome communication challenges
- Realistic DE-ESCALATION techniques
- Search tactics to exponentially increase success and SAVE LIVES
- And much more!
HPD is extremely grateful for Blue Ridge and what they do for not only the law enforcement family, but even more importantly, individuals with autism and their families!
We are dedicated to serve the entire Hoover community and will continue to give them the high quality police services they expect from us.
