HOOVER TEEN CHARGED IN ARMED ROBBERY CASE

      On July 2, 2023 the Hoover Police Department responded to a call of an armed robbery in the 3600 block of Log Trail Drive.  The victim came to the area to sell property to an individual he had met on social media and was subsequently robbed by the person he was selling to. A suspect description was provided to police and an investigation was initiated.  A 17-year-old male was identified as the suspect, and he turned himself in to detectives on July 6, 2023.  A second individual described as a young, black female is also believed to have been involved in the robbery, and police are still working to determine her identity. 

     The facts of the case were presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Birmingham and a warrant was issued charging the suspect as an adult due to the offense involving a firearm.  The details of the charges are as follows:

     The suspect will not be named pursuant to Alabama law barring the release of names and likenesses of juveniles charged as adults.  He is currently being held in the Hoover City Jail and will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail later today.  Anyone with any additional information about this case is encouraged to call Detective Kevin Morris at 205-444-7615

     The Hoover Police Department would like to remind the public to be vigilant when conducting internet exchange transactions and to remember the following safety tips:

  • Be extremely careful conducting business with someone you do not know and use common sense.  
  • Meet in a well-lit, public area.  The City of Hoover provides numerous locations for this at various fire stations and Hoover City Hall. 
  • Try to avoid meeting at night if possible. 
  • There is safety in numbers so try to avoid meeting alone if possible.
