Chief Nick Derzis 2023 Safe School Leadership Award winner
Last week at the NASRO National School Safety Conference in Indianapolis, IN, Chief Derzis was honored to make a special presentation of the award that bears his name.
Congratulations to Lt. Shane Wallace of the Cypress Fairbanks ISD Police Department Houston, TX for winning the Nick Derzis Safe School Leadership award for 2023. Unfortunately Lt. Wallace was unable to attend the conference, so Region 7 Director Lynelle Sparks accepted the award on his behalf.
The award recognizes individuals for their contributions and dedication to a school resource officer program and the many children, parents and faculty members of their communities and schools.
In 2017, NASRO’s board chose to name its leadership award after Chief Derzis because of his “dedication to providing school-based policing programs both in Hoover and around the world.”
