“checking on our customers” is soliciting business

#crimepreventiontiptuesday

Attention!

Recently, we have received MULTIPLE complaints regarding door-to-door solicitors. These individuals are working as third party contractors for large communication technology companies.

Here is the problem. When asked why they don’t have the solicitor permit, they claim that they aren’t soliciting, rather they are “checking on our customers.” These individuals, however, are able to offer upgraded services to existing customers, as well as sign up new customers on the spot.

The Hoover Revenue Department has been very clear that this activity IS SOLICITING BUSINESS, and the individual at your door MUST have the solicitor permit! This is important because each individual that applies for the permit goes through a CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK. So when you see a salesperson that has the permit plainly visible, you can rest assured that they have been VETTED.

If someone shows up at your door conducting business, and they do not have the solicitor permit, call Hoover PD Dispatch immediately: 205-822-5300. Your safety is our top priority!
