Captain Harry Long
Captain Long has spent his entire life in the Birmingham / Hoover area. He graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor’s of Criminal Justice Degree and also began his law enforcement career as a JSU police officer. He joined the Hoover Police Department in 1984 and has held numerous assignments over the years. He was promoted through the ranks and has held command level positions in Patrol, Administration and Investigative Divisions.
When Captain Long was the commander of the Family Services Division (now called the Special Victim’s Unit), he supervised all of the School Resource officers and Family Services investigators. He spearheaded the current structure of the SRO program, which placed at least one uniformed police officer in every City of Hoover School. He also supervised a team of detectives who were responsible for investigating all crime committed by juveniles, as well as all crimes where juveniles were the victims.
Captain Long also serves on the Board of Directors for Owen’s House Child Advocacy Center in Shelby County.
