Six students get ride to school in Hoover police Bearcat armored rescue vehicle

Last month, Chief Derzis served as the auctioneer at the Denim & Dining fundraiser for the Hoover City Schools Foundation. He also came prepared to offer a kid a ride to school in the Police Department’s seized Porsche as the final auction package at the fundraiser.

It didn’t end there. A member of the audience threw a curveball by asking if the Chief would auction off a ride in the Police Department’s armored Bearcat vehicle for $800. Well, Chief knocked that one out of the park! He made good on that promise yesterday for six students. The group got a tour of the Training Center, saw some other cool HPD vehicles, took a turn in the virtual firearm training simulator, then it was off to school.

“It was really cool, and I liked it a lot,” 11-year-old Alexander Bottom said after being dropped off at Trace Crossings Elementary School. “It makes me want to be on the SWAT team.”
